Development of Industry’s First 40nm Embedded Flash Memory for Automotive Applications

Renesas has announced the development of industry’s first 40nm embedded flash memory technology for use in automotive real-time applications. Along with that company will release a world’s first 40nm embedded flash MCUs (Microcontrollers) for automotive applications using the technology with availability of samples by autumn of 2012. The company uses the MONOS (metal oxide nitride oxide silicon) technology to embed the flash memory, a proven and scalable technology, which has also been used before at higher scales.
