Development of Low-Power All-in-One WLAN Module for Wireless Networks by ALPS Electric
ALPS Electric made an announcement on successful development of low-power consumption all-in-one WLAN module for wireless networks. The module comes with built-in CPU and networking protocol providing an easy setup of sensor or other device networks, such as the ones used for smart meters. With ever increasing on sensor network systems in providing an efficient energy usage through monitoring power consumption, temperature, humidity and lighting through use of collected data to control devices. Use of such networks is increasing into such areas as communication between appliances and smart meters in homes, energy-saving management for corporations, temperature control in server rooms, security, disaster prevention and plant factories. Based on this needs, Alps has developed an all-in-one wireless LAN module integrating the GainSpan compact “GS1011″ chip, featuring an antenna, WiFi protocol and connection application with a UART physical interface, ADC, I2C, PWM, and GPIO analog/digital port, which allow direct connection with devices such as humidity and lighting sensors. Development of World’s Smallest All-in-one Compact LTE Base Station by NEC
Following the Kyocera’s announcement on development of micro LTE base station, NEC today made its own announcement on development of world’s smallest, all in one base station at the Mobile World Congress 2010, where NEC claims will enable mobile operators to tailor the provision of their LTE services based on capacity demand, ranging from small-scale to wide-scale commercial deployments. NEC’s has developed the new base station in accordance with 3GPP mobile communication standards, integrating REC ( Radio Equipment Controller) control functions and RE (Radio Equipment) transmission functions.
