Toshiba unveils world’s first LCD TV with CELL Platform
Whether it’s Sharp’s UV2A photo alignment technology or Toshiba’s new Cell Platform, it is all clear that manufacturers of TVs are responding to consumer demands by putting more emphasis on picture quality of TVs rather than its thinness. Although the smaller and thinner TV platform can play a major role in future development of digital Multimedia technology through advancement of manufacturing processes such as role-to-role processing as well as introduction of other forms of screens and display technologies such as OLED and so on, but this may overshot the existing consumer by a mile if the only thing they are concerned about is superior picture quality and power efficiency. Toshiba’s announcement where company refer to it as the future of home entertainment which I think is a bit of over statement is unveiling their latest REGZA LCD TVs based on company’s pride and joy CELL Platform which is really a combination of high speed parallel processing of the Cell Broadband Engine and Toshiba’s advanced image-processing algorithms, together resulting in an arithmetic processing capability which is approximately 143 times than company’s current top of the line REGZA TV promising consumer with unrivaled image enhancement capabilities.
