Conventional CO2 refrigerant circuit become supercritical plus the coefficient of performance (COP) drops to less than HFC based refrigerant circuit when operating under high ambient temperatures such as summer temperature of above 30 degrees Celsius. In response to overcome this problem, Sanyo Electric developed a world’s first inverter driven commercial freezer with CO2 refrigerant. The new freezer was developed based on Sanyo’s patented split cycle which uses company’s proprietary Two Stage Rotary CO2 Compressor resulting in significant improvement in COP exceeding the performance of HFC based refrigerant circuit. Development of ECO Friendly Flame Retardant Bio-plastic by NEC

November 24, 2009 · Filed Under Green Tech, Trendy Products · 1 Comment

In recent years use of reproducible biomass based materials has been gaining popularity. Among this trend is use of bioplastic especially composites with polylactic acid that are being used in daily products such as fibers and utensils as well as such durable products as electronic equipment and automobiles. Having said that, the wide spread success of bioplastics in manufacturing of PCs and other advnced electronic equipment rests on development of advanced bioplastics that are highly flame retardant, durable with a high level of moldability. In response to such market demand NEC made an announcement on development of an ECO friendly flame retardant bioplastic. Read more

Eco-products and Eco-Services a formidable partner in reducing impact on our environment

March 4, 2009 · Filed Under Editor's Corner · 2 Comments

It goes without saying that possessing eco-products without complementary practical eco-services will offer a handicap solution to our environmental problem. Base on this predicament Ministry of the Environment in 2004 established Eco-Product awards with Eco-Service category with a goal of proliferating eco-products and services that help in reducing environmental impacts and supporting the efforts of companies small and large to bring such products and services to the consumers in Japan. New CO2 adsorbent by AIST

December 8, 2008 · Filed Under Clean Tech, Green Tech · 1 Comment

CO2 adsorbents are essential for large scale mining and manufacturing industries where there is a large amount of CO2 emission. One of the current methods in adsorbing CO2 in these applications is “amine method” taken its name from the use of amine-based adsorbents. The method draws certain issues such as its complex maintenance and its low profitability. In other method where zeolite adsorbent is being used the pressure must be reduced to a vacuum level in order to release CO2, under this condition, there is a need for an adsorbent capable of absorbing and releasing large volume of CO2 in a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure. This method which is called Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) comes with a high cost and energy consumption. The newly developed adsorbent by Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Japan is silicon-aluminum (Si-Al) based adsorbent capable of absorbing and releasing a large amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure.
