Release of 3-Inch VGA LCD Module for Digital Cameras Based on “RGBW” method Reducing Power Consumption by Half
Sony has successfully developed “WhiteMagic”, a 3-inch LCD designed for digital cameras which uses the newly developed “RGBW” method. This 3-inch VGA low-temperature polysillicone TFT LCD module adds white pixel to the Red-Green-Blue (“RGB”) pixels. The newly developed “WhiteMagic” offers a power saving mode capable of reducing the power consumption by as much as 50%, while offering another mode capable of doubling the brightness of the LCD module for improved outdoor visibility. Typical addition of the white pixel to the conventional RGB pixels would result in deterioration of the image quality; however, “WhiteMagic™” is capable of analyzing the input picture data and would come up with appropriate signal processing through use of new algorithm, resulting in superior image quality. The two mode of the new module are Vistarich™ and transmissive. Read more
Release of World’s Smallest Level of Pixel Size CMOS Image Sensor
Toshiba has announced the release of a new 1.12 micrometer pixel CMOS image sensor, featuring industry’s smallest level of pixel size with enhanced sensitivity and improved imaging performance thanks to back-side illumination technology (BSI). Introduction of BSI in image sensor technology was mainly to overcome the performance fall out due to continued miniaturization of smartphones offering higher resolution image quality now in range of 5M to 8M pixels. Development of TransferJet™ Wireless Technology Compatible RF Module by SMK
SMK has announced the development of RF module that supports TransferJet™ wireless technology, a close proximity wireless transfer technology for simple and efficient way of transfer of data. The features include a maximum operating distance of a few centimeters with constant connection style of 1-to-1. Adoption of touch panels for a wide range of applications has resulted in introduction of various products incorporating touch key functions with increasingly sophisticated applications. Development of Noise Suppression Technology for Digital Cameras by NEC
The Generated sounds by lens drivers for digital cameras in movie mode are normally recorded as noise by microphone. In order to eliminate this noise NEC has developed noise suppression technology, through a method that records and saves the core characteristics of sounds that has been created by a camera lens’ driving mechanism and then eliminates this information from signals that are recorded by microphones. In addition to this, the new technology will automatically adapt to lens and microphone characteristics among different products, eliminating any needs for customized product adjustment. Release of Header-type microSD Card Connector featuring Industry’s Smallest Mountig Space by SMK
SMK has recently developed a header-type connector for microSD cards offering industry’s smallest mounting space. The device supports variable height ranging from 2.45mm to 6.00mm, offering the equipment manufacturers freedom in design of their products. It comes in width of 11.45mm and length of 5.3mm, resulting in the smallest mounting space in the industry. High Energy Efficient Display Using MEMS Shutter
In a joint effort between Hitachi Displays and Pixtronix of U.S, a prototype of a highly energy efficient display was developed using MEMS shutter. The actual MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System) shutter display technology as developed by Pixtronix, featuring high-speed opening and closing of MEMS shutter on each individual pixel to control amount of light and adjust the brightness of an image. Through this process, the images are displayed through what is called as sequential switching of light from red, green, and blue LED backlights. Read more

Rohm has introduced a compact high-surge, high power chip resistors ideal for mobile phones, digital cameras, and other portable products. The new ESR01 Series chip resistors can also be used in automotive systems, power supply circuits as well as switching circuits. Alps has released a new SKSH Series TACT switch ideal for portable devices such as mobile phones and audio players. In developing new switch, Alps has applied its simulation technology, a new metal contact with a pressed microscopic doughnut-type extrusion, providing a wide operational range despite its compact size. Furthermore, has added a partitioned construction to the fixed contact area in order to improve contact reliability.
