Epson has unveiled its brand new high performance SoC for E-Ink display panels. The new SoC is targeting various active E-Ink e-paper applications such as e-books, e-tablets, as well as e-notepads. The new S1D13M01 comes with MIPS-24Kef CPU core and Epson’s multi-pipeline e-paper display (EPD) controller, which has been optimized for E-Ink display panels. The new S1D13M01 has been deigned to speed up display rendering with the help of a hardware JPEG engine, PNG decoder engine, color space conversion engine as well as 2D graphics engine. EPSON has optimized the performance of EPD controller by optimizing memory controller interface in achieving smooth EPD display. The new SoC has been co-developed with Taiwanese multimedia SoC company, Magic Pixel Inc., a spun out division of Macronix International Co, Ltd.
Murata Manufacturing has announced the successful upgrade of acoustic characteristics of world’s thinnest piezoelectric speaker measuring only 0.5mm in thickness. The company has successfully managed to reduce the distortion in band region of 2 to 4 kHz and upgrade the sound pressure level in low-frequency regions of 1 kHz and less, while maintaining the small product size.
