The two Ultra-low temperature freezers can freeze cell or tissue sample at a temperature below -80 degrees Celsius, in suppressing physical and chemical changes resulting in long term preservation of the sample. The VIP® ultra-low temperature freezer model MDF-U700VX is made for overseas and Japanese market, features intelligent ECO mode operation. Read more
Development of New Energy Saving Circuit Configuration Reducing Power Consumption in Mobile Equipment
Toshiba has unveiled its newly developed Flip-Flop circuit configuration using 40nm CMOS process which company claims would reduce power consumption in mobile equipment. For example, the measure data that has been recorder when the new configuration has been applied to wireless LAN verifies that the power dissipation of the new flip-flop is up to 77% less than conventional flip-flop, furthermore, it achieves a 24% reduction in overall power consumption. As an essential part a SoC design, a flip-flop is a circuit that temporarily stores one bit of data during arithmetic processing by a SoC which is incorporated within mobile equipment as well as other digital equipment. Normally, is responsible to incorporate a clock buffer to produce a clock inverted signal required for operation of circuit. The clock buffer consumes power when triggered by a signal from the clock, even when data is not changed. In order to reduce this power dissipation, a power saving technique by the name of clock gating is used in order to cut delivery of clock signal to unused blocks; however by applying this power saving technique, the flip-flop active rate is only 5-15%, leaving room for further power reduction. To further reducing the power consumption, Toshiba has changed the structure of the conventional flip-flop and has eliminated the clock buffer all together. Read more
New Energy Saving 32-bit Microcomputers with Built-in Flash Memory by Panasonic
Panasonic has announced the development of a new 32-bit microcomputers with half the power consumption, ideal for equipments requiring low power consumption in stand-by mode. The new microcomputers facilitate miniaturization and cost reduction of the equipment through reduction of parts required, including EEPROM. In addition to this, the new microcomputers come with an oscillator and it can operate over a wide range of voltage from 2.2V to 5.5V. Read more
Development of a New Method in Transmitting Electrical Signals Via Insulators
Years ago during one of my trips to US;I had a chance to discuss a theory of boosting/regenerating optical signals via the optical cables sheath with a professor from Michigan University who happen to sit next to me. An idea, that would have saved millions of dollars in equipment cost mainly cost of Regeneration equipments, then used, to boost optical signals in long haul network architecture. Well, today I had read a news that a group of researchers led by Professor Eiji Saitoh at Institute for Materials Research at Tohoku University in JAPAN has succeeded in developing a method, capable of transmitting electrical signals through its insulators using electron spin technology. R&D effort toward Development of a Hybrid Car Carrier using Natural Energy
Well, it would be a shame to see all those giant car carriers burning fossil fuel while carrying electric Cars and Hybrid automobiles to oversees. After all, carrying the vehicle itself is part of CO2 emission cycle, even though the actual vehicle is not part of burning the fuel. To address this issue, through an initiative by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, there will be joint R&D effort by Sanyo Electric, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in developing a Hybrid Car Carrier in an effort to reduce CO2 emission form hew ships. Read more
Development of Energy Saving Elevator Technology by Mitsubishi Electric
When it comes to energy saving only a few individual will ever think of Elevator system, but in fact operators of tall buildings and large facilities have shown strong interest in elevator system that can help in reduction in energy consumption. Most multi-elevator control system, however offer a trade-off between passenger convenience and energy saving feature, since manufacturer’s main concern in designing such system is in reducing passenger waiting time, which eventually can lead to increase in energy consumption by the elevator system. Based on this need, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation made an announcement on development of a new multi-elevator smart-control technology capable of reducing energy consumption by up to 10% in comparison to current elevator systems, helping building owners to cut energy consumption without sacrificing individual convenience. The newly developed fan in addition to its energy saving feature is capable of large air flow, high static pressure and low noise. The new cooling fan is best suited for communication equipments, servers, storage and power supply. It comes with the PWM speed control function for control of external fan rotation speed. The company’s projected sale for this newly fan is 12,000 units per month for initial fiscal year and 15,000 units per month for the second fiscal year. Read more
Development of Rain Water Purification and Sterilization System by Sanyo
Sanyo made an announcement on development of purification and sterilization system to purify, sterilize and effectively utilize rain water which has been saved in a tank using company’s original ozonation technology. According to the company sprinkling purified/sterilized rainwater on rooftop or on the outdoor units of showcases and air conditioners can reduce heat penetration into a building resulting in improved operation efficiency of outdoor units which translate into energy saving and reduction on your electric bill. The system is still in its early stage of development and it will be installed in the buildings of commercial facilities in Japan for field testing to verify its performance and energy-saving effect, and further research and development will be promoted toward its commercialization.
