Development of World’s Highest Power Efficiency Analog To Digital Converter by Fujitsu

February 12, 2010 · Filed Under Green Tech, Trendy Products · Comment

Fujitsu SAR converterIn digital converters, the analog-to-digital (A/D) converters often responsible for a large share of the equipment’s total power consumption, making them an clear target for solution capable reducing power consumption. Currently, the pipelined A/D converters are mostly used in various digital devices and mobile phones. However, pipelined A/D converters include analog circuitry, which hampers the further miniaturization of the internal circuitry. Alternative to pipelined A/D converters are SAR (Successive-Approximation-Register) A/D converters, due to the fact that SAR A/D converters contrary to pipelined A/D converters do not require amplifiers plus they are compact in size and consumes less power. Development of world’s First high Reliability Read Method for use in Spin-Torque-Transfer (STT) MRAM

February 11, 2010 · Filed Under Uncategorized · Comment

Fujitsu STT MRAMSpin-Torque-Transfer (STT) MRAM is considered as a potential future form of non-volatile memory which can be used as an alternative to flash memory. Searching for an alternative low power non-volatile memory to the currently used NOR flash memory, which is embedded in microcontrollers in mobile phones as well as other electronic devices, is due to the fact that NOR flash memory is reaching the limits of its feasible miniaturization. The new alternative is expected to continue the necessary miniaturization. The practical implementation of STT MRAM faces several technical challenges, one of such challenges is due to the fact that STT MRAM requires memory storage elements that take advantage of the effect in which a current which is passed through a magnetic material such as a magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) to revers its direction of magnetization, which has the effect of switching between a low resistance and high resistance, to be used for representing the 1s and 0s of digital information, in order for STT MRAM to be used as a non-volatile memory. However, reading the STT MRAM, in order to discover whether the MTJ offers high resistance to current (”1″) or low resistance (”0″) requires a relatively high amount of voltage to correctly determine whether its resistance is high or low. But current passed at this high voltage leaves very little difference between the read-current and the write-current, resulting in erroneous outcome, since any fluctuation in the electrical characteristics of individual MTJs could cause what was intended as a read-current, to have the effect of a wirte-current, resulting in reversal of the direction of magnetization of the MTJ. Development of a New Frequency Synthesizer for Terrestrial Digital Television Broadcast Tuner by Fujitsu

February 10, 2010 · Filed Under Trendy Products · 2 Comments

Fujitsu frequency synthesizerIn Japan the tuners that are incorporated into the TVs and mobile phones receive radio signals from broadcast towers, where the tuners will extract audio-visual data from those signals. The tuners employ frequency synthesizer capable of generating a clock signal that are equivalent to the frequency of the channel the viewer is selected to watch. The need of the frequency synthesizer within the tuners is due to thee fact that each channel which is transmitted by a broadcast tower occupies a different frequency. Terrestrial digital TV broadcast in Japan consists of 14 segments occupying 6 MHz of bandwidth. 12 of these segments are designated for TV, one for “1seg” broadcast for mobile phone, and the remaining one segment is left empty. Development of Solutions for Combating Silent Failure in IP Networks by DOCOMO and Fujitsu

December 16, 2009 · Filed Under Trendy Products · Comment

In an IP network silent failure occurs when a router fails and as a result of this data transmission is stopped all without the network administrator being notified. This phenomenon is due to the fact that routers are not capable of detecting their own internal failures. The current solution to overcome this issue is for network operators to install dedicated monitoring devices capable of detecting silent failures through continually transmitting test data throughout the entire network and analyzing the test result, a rather time consuming process indeed. Based on this need, DoCoMo and Fujitsu have jointly developed two new technologies capable of detecting and locating “silent failures” within IP networks with greater speed and accuracy than currently available methods. One of these newly developed technologies is responsible for analyzing not only the test transmitted data but also analyzing such information as loss rate and network delays which would results in faster detection of silent failure. It is also capable of detecting warning signs of silent failures that would possibly about to occur. Read more

Development of World’s First Production Scheduling System Compatible with PSLX Platform by Fujitsu

December 12, 2009 · Filed Under Trendy Products · Comment

This news would certainly come as a blessing for manufacturing industry where taking down to the second detailed records on-site is a must. Under the current situation , companies in the manufacturing industry utilizing production scheduling systems in order to reduce inefficiencies in overproduction and stock, two major issues effecting company profitability. Normally in this situation, a production system takes the daily schedule from an ERP system and creates a detail records from that, a necessary step in production facilities, while at the same time taking care of various limitations involving the production facilities and setup. Development of Technology in making Graphene transistors at low temperature on large scale substrates by Fujitsu

November 27, 2009 · Filed Under Trendy Products · Comment

As miniaturization technology is approaching its limit plus achieving further higher performance is increasingly becoming more difficult, forcing component manufacturers to seek alternative materials to currently used silicon such as transistor channels, the conduits that pass electricity in LSIs. One such material is Graphene a nano-scale carbon material which is essentially a single layer of the multi-layered graphite. In graphene individual carbon atoms are linked into a hexagonal lattice that is laid out in a flat sheet. Read more
