Development of Industry’s Largest Capacity 1.8-inch class HDD by TOSHIBA
Toshiba once again is breaking its own record by introducing yet again the largest capacity in 1.8-inch type HDD, a record breaking 320GB with 16MB of buffer memory and improved transfer rate for supporting high-speed processing of large data volumes. He new HDD is designed to fit into the PCs and portable external hard disk drive. The improvement in capacity has been largely due to improvement in perpendicular magnetic recording head and disk’s magnetic layer resulted in an increase of an areal density of 801 Mbit/mm2 (516Gbpsi) which happen to be the industry’s highest for 1.8 inch class of HDD. Hitachi Global Storage Technology unveils its latest HDD product line-ups
Hitachi Global Storage Technology (Hitachi GST) made an announcement on introduction of its latest CinemaStar family of 3.5-inch hard disk drives. The new product line up consists of CinemaStar 7K1000.C featuring 7200 RPM with 1TB storage capacity and CinemaStar 5K1000 CoolSpin with 1TB capacity as well. Both products are designed to fit the high definition video streaming offering high performance, advance AV features with low power consumption and temperature as well as the large capacity to meet the objectives of manufacturers of consumer electronic devices in terms of design ,performance and cost. Shipment of 2.5- inch Hard disk Media by Showa Denko
Showa Denko made an announcement on shipment of 2.5-inch size hard disk media with storage capacity of 334GB utilizing the fifth generation perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology. SDK has already commercialized the 1.89, 2.5 and 3.5-inch fourth generation PMR media storage. Showa Denko claims that this is the largest capacity for this size of hard disk in the industry (i.e. the world) but I don’t believe this is the case based on earlier announcement by Toshiba on development of 2.5 inch HDD with the storage capacity of 640GB. Industry’s first 2 Terabyte 7200 RPM Desktop Hard Disk Drive by Hitachi GST
Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) made an announcement on development of industry’s first 2TB, 7200 RPM HDD targeted at heavy personal PC users. The newly developed Deskstar 7k2000 combines a mixture of high performance and capacity along with low power consumption and other ecological friendly features. Based on company’s power saving technology like Hitachi Voltage Efficiency Regulator (HiVERT™), the Deskstar 7K2000 and 7K1000.C features an outstanding power management and thermal emission to assist computer and storage based manufacturers to meet their energy compliance requirements. The new Deskstar 7K2000 offers 10 percent idle power savings over previous generations, and on a watt-per-GB basis, idle power has improved more than 120 percent. Read more
Shipment of first USB 3.0 SATA bridge ICs in the market by FUJITSU
In an ever growing demand from PC and other digital audio visual equipment manufacture to handle the constantly increasing volume of digital data such as digital photos, audio and video files, has forced these manufacturers to move to the latest version of the ubiquitous USB interface namely USB 3.0. The current data transmission rate under the USB 2.0 specification at 480Mbps makes it too slow to meet the current demand in reading and writing high volumes of data in a very short time. Under the USB 3.0 specification which was ratified on November of 2008, the newly interface should promise a data transfer rate of over ten fold in comparison to USB 2.0. Read more
World’s first technology capable of remote deletion of data even notebook PC has been powered off
In an ongoing effort by Fujitsu to make mobile environments safer and to increase organizational productivity and work efficiency by allowing notebook PC users to use them outside their office environment, Fujitsu in a joint development with Fujitsu Laboratories and Willcom, inc. has unveiled a new security solution targeting corporate clients enabling the data on a notebook PC’s hard disk drive (HDD) to be remotely deleted by using Willcom’s PHS network. The new security solution provides a mean for corporate clients for protection against information leaks in an event of loss or theft of their notebook PCs. Read more
Casio Exilim EX-FC100 and EX-FS10
It has certainly been a long road for Casio since the introduction of QV-10 digital camera back in 1995. The EX-FC100 and EX-FS10 provide an overall improvement in picture quality and speed with added lightness and slimness inspired by today’s consumer demand for digital cameras. The EX-FC100 measures only 99.8mmx58.5mmx22.6mm. It offers a 5X optical zoom lens plus a CMOS shift anti shake functionality. It features a 2.7 inch high quality super clear LCD. With its high speed capability user can enjoy a 9.1 mega pixel resolution. New Panasonic DIGA DVD recorders
Panasonic just made an announcement of a new addition to its DIGA series High vision DVD recorders equipped with HDD. Both “DMR-xp15” and “DMR-XP25V” come with 250GB HDD. The “DMR-XP25V” additionally comes with VHS slot. These new series comes with new generation system LSI which company calls it “UniPhier” and equipped with the second generation MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 encoder which is an advanced AVC encoder.
