Release of Single-Disk 1TB Hard Drive for High-Performance Computers by Hitachi
Hitachi Global Storage Technologies has announced the development of Deskstar™ 7K1000.D Company’s first 0ne-disk with the capacity of 1TB and 7200 RPM. The newly released 3.5-inch hard drive is targeted for use in consumer as well as commercial desktop computers. The new Deskstar™ 7K1000.D features an increased sector size of 4096 (4K) bytes, resulting in increased capacity and improvement in error correction capabilities. Read more
Development of MLC type NAND SSD for Ultra-High Performance and Endurance
Hitachi Global Storage Technologies has released a new Multi Level Cells (MLC) type of NAND Solid State Drive (SSD). The new Ultrastar SSD400M has a high sequential throughput of up to 496MB/s read and 385MB/s write (6Gb SAS), all in a compact form factor of 2.5 inch. The new NAND SSD delivers up to 56,000 read and 24,000 write IOPS, which is 100 times faster than HDDs, making it ideal for ultra-high performance tire-0 enterprise storage as well as enterprise level servers and high performance computing.
