Development High Iron Concentration Samarium-Cobalt Magnet by TOSHIBA
With an aim to replace the heat-resistant Neodymium Magnet in essential applications such as traction motors for hybrid and electric automobiles, Toshiba has developed dysprosium-free samarium-cobalt magnet, offering superior magnetic properties in comparison to the heat-resistant neodymium magnets which are currently used in motors. In order to eliminate dysprosium, the key element in these types of magnets, Toshiba has used heat treatment technology to improve the magnetic force of the samarium-cobalt magnet. The high concentration samarium-cobalt magnet surpasses that of the heat-resistance neodymium magnet in magnetic force by 1% at an operating temperature of 100 degrees Celsius, and by 5% at 150 degrees Celsius.
