Development of Autonomous ROBOTIC System Capable of Automatically Generating Robot Control and Trajectory Programs in Industrial Application
Dainippon Screen in cooperation with YASKAWA Electric Corporation has developed an autonomous system for industrial robotic application capable of automatic generation of motion programs and use of vision sensors to recognize parts and materials and autonomously control and correct the position of robots. The new system with its ability to automatically generate robot complex motion program and importing it into a PC 3D CAD data for parts and materials eliminates any needs for learning process which is carried out on a programming pendant. In addition to this the system vision sensors stereoscopically recognizes the position and orientation of parts and materials on robot’s motion trajectory. The system can be used at cell production sites that require various complex processes which previously considered difficult to automate.

Development of 7-Inch Wide Viewing Angle WVGA Resolution Module by Kyocera
Kyocera has announced the release of new addition to company’s LCD lineup. The new 7-inch wide viewing angle WVGA module is ideal for indoor as well as outdoor use. The new LED backlight module offers low power consumption with up to 70,000 hours of operation time and a viewing angle of 170 degrees covering needs of medical and industrial applications. Furthermore, its high contrast ratio provides multi-viewing angles even for outdoor use where sunlight would usually reduce readability. Read more
Development of a Contact-Free Visualization System of Ultrasound for Flaw Inspection in Industrial Application by AIST
Nondestructive inspection (NDI) is an important step in ensuring the safety of structure in such areas as power plants, vehicles and infrastructures. One of the commonly used techniques in such inspections is ultrasound. Based on this AIST has developed a ultrasound laser scanning system for visualizing ultrasound waves propagating on any shape as an animation image for quick and easy detection of flaws. This system is contact based inspection system. Read more

Development of New High Heat Resisting Material to be used in Industrial Application by AIST
Asbestos made products have been widely used as gaskets for piping under high-temperature conditions in various industries, however given the high toxicity of asbestos, industry is seeking for asbestos free alternative products with similar performance as asbestos at high temperatures. So far the issue with using alternative material has been in retaining the sealing properties and durability at high temperatures. In response to challenge AIST and Japan Matex has developed a gasket capable of withstanding temperatures of up to 420 degrees Celsius, by coating the surface of an expanded graphite gasket with Claist®, a heat resistant clay film. Development of Super Heat Resistance IC Glass Tag for High Temperature Industrial Application
We all heard of IC Tags used for quality control and inventory and merchandising of some sort but you probably never heard of IC tags that can be embedded into shipbuilding pipes. Well, there are around 6,000 to 10,000 shipbuilding pipes go into constructing a ship, and over half of them are hot-dip galvanized otherwise known as plated for preventing corrosion. The pipes can easily be identified through printing or engraving on the pipe, however physical identification of these pipes after they are plated can be only possible by visually looking at their shapes and dimensions for the sorting process, resulting in human errors and inefficiency in shipbuilding operations. Use of IC tags in this process would provide an efficient way in sorting the pipes, however the guaranteed temperature limit for IC tags was originally 100 degrees Celsius, which make it impossible to be used under conditions for plating where temperatures can reach close to 450 degrees Celsius. In response to technical challenge, Toppan Printing has developed a prototype ultra heat resistance IC glass tag which can withstand a temperature of 450 degree Celsius. Read more
