Following corn, wheat, and rice, potato represents one of human’s most important crops. But despite its popularity it has its downsides which are the presence of toxic substance known as steroidal glycoalkaloids, mainly solanine and chachonine, which in some cases make the plants inedible. The researchers have discovered the cholesterol however in small amount is used to synthesis the glycoalkaloid toxins.
