Tatami as being part of traditional Japanese culture is going through a though time partly due to shift to more western style of flooring such as rugs, carpets or even wood flooring ,and party due to ongoing difficulties with supply of rice straw, the main ingredient in making tatami. The supply issue has been created due to insufficient straw materials, reduced request because of aging of tatami artisans and need for price reduction with consistent quality. As a result of this, there has been a shift toward tatami mat construction materials that do not use any rice straw. One such company that makes alternative material for tatami construction is Dow Kakoh, where the company uses “STYROFOAM” extruded polystyrene foam boards to match the feel of a straw tatami mats resulting in a lighter tatami mat. It all started with announcement of WiMAX wireless data services by UQ Communication today which states collaboration between UQ Communications Inc. and Intel in promoting and expanding “UQ WiMAX,” the commercially available WiMAX service from UQ Communications in Japan scheduled to be released on July 1st 2009. A Japanese interior design company by the name of New Life Corp. has developed a 3 layered curtain featuring an exceptional thermal performance during the summer as well as winter managing to maintain a room and window temperature difference of 5 to 10 degrees Celsius. The “Air-Sandwich Curtain” as company refers to it is made by placing a special fabric between the interior layer facing the room and the window side which is a reflective layer type fabric. The thermal performance of this newly developed curtain is the result of injecting two layers of air between the three layers of fabrics. A 2 square meter size Air-Sandwich Curtain sells for 26,000 yen.

Automating the creation of High quality 3D image for WEB?

In order to create a 3D image, a photographer usually has to manually adjust a position of an object for taking a shot of several different angles of the object resulting in a very time consuming and costly process. A Japanese company by the name of U-SYSTEMS Inc has developed equipment that reduces the amount of time and cost of the overall process of 3D image creation.
The “APS-01v1” is capable of automating the entire process of photo shooting such as rotating the object, moving camera, lighting control, camera control and uploading data to PC resulting in reduced cost and efficient way of creating a high quality 3D image. The company also offers a service to create 3D content for website by using “US-360i” which can view a product from 360 degree. The price of creating one content starts from 15,750 yen.
