Panasonic has announced the development of single cable and connector solution capable transmission of uncompressed full-spec 8K video signals. The newly developed connector equipped cable uses plastic optical fiber technology.
High speed transmission over optical fiber connector can be achieved when optical axes are completely aligned. This becomes an issue when the equipment and the cable’s connection portion are detachable, making it difficult to precisely align optical axes at the point of connection resulting in poor connectivity and other type of defects. Researchers from the RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences and Keio University in Japan has are working on a new treatment that can be used to overcome resistance to steroids in severe asthma patients. A type of lymphocytes called natural helper (NH) cells plays a critical role in corticosteroid resistance. According to the study by the researchers at both institutes the anti-psychotic drug Pimozide can be used to overcome resistance to steroids in severe asthma patients. T lymphocytes and NH cells in asthmatic lung produce proteins named interleukin (IL)-5 and IL-13 responsible for severe airway inflammation. In asthma patients, inhaled steroids function by suppressing both T lymphocytes and NH cells. However, in severe asthma patients another protein called interleukin-33 (IL-33) is produced in the airways which strongly activate NH cells to produce IL-5 and IL-13, causing a severe airway inflammation. Group of researchers from Graduate School of Design of Keio University have successfully developed a remote controlled robotic system that is capable of communicating fine haptic senses to the fingertips. This new concept of haptic technology has been named “telexistance” which allows the movements of a user in remote places to be transmitted to a robot as well as transmitting haptic information from the robot to the user. The telexistance system, “TELESAR V” capable of transmitting sense of touch and heat to the fingertips was developed last year based on premises of transmitting not only sight and sound through cameras and microphones but also in transmitting the sense of texture and temperature of the objects which is picked up by the robot hand, however the system failed to distinguish between the smoothness of different materials. Electric Vehicle Laboratory of Keio University will develop Electric buses in corporation with ISUZU MOTORS. The group will apply “Integrated Platform Structure” technology in development of this bus which was developed by Keio University Electric Vehicle Laboratory. “Integrated Platform Structure” is a new concept of Vehicle body structure which has main components of the vehicle such as motor, inverter and batteries being mounted beneath vehicle floor resulting in the best use of space of within the vehicle.
