Development of High-Voltage, Low Power Consumption MOSFET for LCD TVs and PC Servers by Renesas Electronics
Renesas Electronics has released a new high voltage N-channel power metal-oxide semiconductor filed-effect-transistor (MOSFET) product, featuring low power consumption for such equipment as communication base stations, solar power generation systems, and LCD TVs and PC servers. The newly released RJK60S5DPK power MOSFET is suited for use in the primary power switching circuit of a power supply unit, converting AC to DC current. The new RJK60S5DPK power MOSFET employs a high-precision super junction structure, which unlike the conventional planar structure, is capable of lowering on-resistance without reducing the voltage tolerance of the device, resulting in reduction of on-resistance per unit of area. Introduction of high-precision super junction, will achieve a figure of merit (FOM), a key overall performance index for power MOSFET devices which has been improved by around 90% in comparison to the Renesas existing products. The new RJK60S5DPK power MOSFET offers a high speed switching, making to boost the power conversion efficiency. Read more

Development of New LCD Controller Enabling Dual Display on Mobile Devices by SHARP
Following Toshiba’s announcement on development of industry’s first dual touch screen “liberto W100”, Sharp Corporation took that one step further, by introducing industry’s first LCD controller for mobile devices capable of simultaneous display of two different contents on two different screens at resolution of half-XGA which is 480×1024 pixels. I guess the next playground for mobile device manufacturer is the dual screen/touch screen feature, which is a handy feature for up coming eBook readers. Read more
SHARP Unveils its 3D Compatible AQUOS Quattron LCD TV based on Four-Primary-Color Technology
Sharp has developed the four-primary-color technology based on company’s proprietary UV2A technology, a new technology that adds yellow to the RBG (red, blue, green) primary colors, resulting in dramatic improvement in picture color quality.Through use of this technology, the company has significantly improved the light utilization efficiency contributing to reduced power consumption by approximately 10% in comparison to previous models with UV2A technology. The 1.8 times greater in brightness, provides a vivid 3D images to viewers. Read more

Toshiba unveils world’s first LCD TV with CELL Platform
Whether it’s Sharp’s UV2A photo alignment technology or Toshiba’s new Cell Platform, it is all clear that manufacturers of TVs are responding to consumer demands by putting more emphasis on picture quality of TVs rather than its thinness. Although the smaller and thinner TV platform can play a major role in future development of digital Multimedia technology through advancement of manufacturing processes such as role-to-role processing as well as introduction of other forms of screens and display technologies such as OLED and so on, but this may overshot the existing consumer by a mile if the only thing they are concerned about is superior picture quality and power efficiency. Toshiba’s announcement where company refer to it as the future of home entertainment which I think is a bit of over statement is unveiling their latest REGZA LCD TVs based on company’s pride and joy CELL Platform which is really a combination of high speed parallel processing of the Cell Broadband Engine and Toshiba’s advanced image-processing algorithms, together resulting in an arithmetic processing capability which is approximately 143 times than company’s current top of the line REGZA TV promising consumer with unrivaled image enhancement capabilities.
