Green House a Japanese Firm has announced release of USB powered LED Backlight 15.6-inch TFT-LCD monitor. The monitor can be used either as a PC monitor or as sub-monitor, allowing user to see two different screens capture (i.e. Dual display mode). In addition to this the monitor can be connected into 6 monitors Daisy Chain (six simultaneous connection to a single PC), making it deal for conference venues or such environment requiring multi-display. There are other types of USB powered monitors in the market but with small sizes of up to 7-inch, in exception to Samsung 18.5-inch monitor to be released in 2011. The monitor by Green House has a power consumption of only 5 W, low enough to be powered via a USB 2.0 cable, as well as transmitted data. Panasonic has developed a 32 and 37 inch Full HD 3D IPS Alpha LCD panels with LED backlight featuring industry’s fastest 2 ms super high-speed scanning. In addition to this the display speed has been increased by two folds in comparison to the previous models, resulting in major reduction in crosstalk and production of solid black picture with broad gradation display, similar to its plasma display panels. High Energy Efficient Display Using MEMS Shutter

In a joint effort between Hitachi Displays and Pixtronix of U.S, a prototype of a highly energy efficient display was developed using MEMS shutter. The actual MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System) shutter display technology as developed by Pixtronix, featuring high-speed opening and closing of MEMS shutter on each individual pixel to control amount of light and adjust the brightness of an image. Through this process, the images are displayed through what is called as sequential switching of light from red, green, and blue LED backlights. Read more

Toshiba has just made an announcement on introduction of world’s first notebook PC capable of 3D content playback. The new “dynabook TX/98MBL” will display the 3D content in the Blu-ray 3D format . The new “dynabook TX/98MBL” has a 15.6-inch LCD screen with LED backlight at a 120Hz scan rate. The new PC comes with WinDVD BD for playback the 3D content as well as NVIDIA 3D vision software and hardware. The new “dynabook TX/98MBL” 3D playback capability is based on the active shutter technology, where the system’s active shutter LCD glasses lighten and darken at the same fast refresh rate of the 120Hz of LCD, with an effective referesh rate of each eye of 60Hz, resulting in a high quality stereoscopic image. Mitsubishi Electric has made an announcement on development of two new 15.0 inch XGA color thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) modules for industrial use. The two newly developed display feature different luminance but they both share the same 170 degree super wide vertical and horizontal viewing angle as well as a white light emitting diode (LED) backlight. Toshiba unveiled its new series of Regza LCD TV series with LED backlight control system using Toshiba’s newly developed LSI capable of controlling the light emission for each area on the screen resulting in a high Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 2,000,000:1. The new series take advantage of “Full-HD Clear Panel” technology for their LCD panels offering a glossy surface. The Full-HD Clear Panel is capable of reducing the diffused reflection of external light on the screen surface while preventing light from inside the panel from being diffused on the surface resulting in further increase in contrast ratio.
