Sharp has announced the mass production of new high conversion efficiency single crystalline solar cells at its solar cell plant is in GREEN FRONT SAKAI, in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan. The new single crystalline solar cells use a Back Contact structure, where the electron is connected to the back, eliminating any needs for electrode on the front, resulting in an increase in light-receiving area on the front surface of the cell. Production of High Capacity Li-ion Battery by Panasonic has gone into Mass-Production

As demand for lithium-ion batteries as a power source for mobile devices such as note PC and mobile phones is going into high gear due to its high energy density and light weight, the requirement for its robustness and safety in preventing abnormal heating will play a major role in its successful mass market acceptance in fulfilling the requirements for ever sophisticated and powerful mobile devices that will incorporate them. Based on this need, Panasonic Corporation has developed a 18650-type high capacity 3.1 Ah Li-ion battery and started its mass production this December. Panasonic achieved the high capacity and safety through use of its unique Heat Resistance Layer (HRL) technology by placing an insulating metal oxide layer between the positive and negative electrodes, whereby preventing the battery from overheating even if a short circuit occurs.
