Japan’s First High-Pressure Gas Supply System for Marine Engines by MHI
Mitsubishi Heavy Industry has announced the development of Japan’s first system for supplying high-pressure gas enabling use of natural gas as fuel for marine engines. The new high-pressure gas supply system delivers liquefied natural gas (LNG) at 30 megapascals (MPa) through liquid pumping, featuring a compact configuration with reduced power consumption. The liquid pump on this system adopts a hydraulic driver without speed reduction mechanism, facilitating variable speed adjustment and high flexibility of layout. Read more
Delivery of Japan Largest Indoor Lithium-Ion Battery Based Microgrid Energy Storage System
Mitsubishi Heavy Industry (MHI) has announced the delivery of Japan largest lithium-ion based microgrid energy storage system for indoor use. The system has the output capacity of 100 kW and storage capacity of 60 kWh. The new system will be delivered to Shimizu Institute of Technology in Tokyo who will be conducting verification testing, based on their expertise in various advance studies which includes verification testing of different technological areas including microgrids which are a localized power management systems as well as smart BEMS (building and energy management system). Development of world’s First 8-inch Wafer Bonding Machine capable of creating 3D Integrated LSI
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has announced the development of a fully automated 8-inch wafer bonding machine capable of producing 3-dimensionally integrated LSI circuits at room temperature, industry’s first. The newly developed machine utilizes a fast atom beam (FAB) gun to irradiate atoms for activating material surface to bond, instead of existing ion beam gun used in the company’s existing room-temperature bonding machines. In the case of ion gun machine argon ion beam is radiated, where an FAB gun radiates a neutral atom beam of argon. Read more
Production of Cost Effective Biofuel from Rice and Barley Straw by Mitsubishi Heavy Industry
Mitsubishi Heavy Industry (MHI) has announced the production of ethanol for automobile fuel from lignocellulose (soft cellulose) such as rice and barley straw. The project was carried out in a joint effort by Hakutsuru Sake Brewing for fermentation and Kansai Chemical Engineering for distillation and dehydration. MHI was responsible for preprocessing and saccharification, which company adopted a hydrothermal treatment system enabling a continuous processing of feedstocks. Read more
Development of New Gear Cutting Machine by Mitsubishi Heavy Industry
Demand for high efficiency and accuracy equipment for machining of various gears including transmission gears, at low cost has been increasing in the automobile industry. Mitsubishi Heavy Industry (MHI) with its world’s first dry cutting gear production system using no cutting fluid back in 1997, has led the industry with diverse gear cutting machines and cutting tools. IN response to market demand, MHI has introduced a new gear grinding machines suitable for volume production of gears for up to 150 mm in diameter. The new ZE15B gear grinding machine is equipped with a newly developed workpiece changer resulting in shorter amount of time required for changeover, plus the twin tailstock model is capable of reducing non-operational time to just five seconds. The shorter high efficiency grinding has been achieved through an increase in machine rigidity and by adopting a 30 percent faster grinding wheel with the speed of maximum 6000rpm. Read more
Introduction of Heat Pump Water Heater with Industry’s First CO2 Scroll-Rotary Two Stage Compressor by Mitsubishi Heavy Industry
The introduction of heat pump in cold climate so far has been limited, due to dramatic reduction of heating output and COP value. To overcome this issue, Mitsubishi Heavy Industry (MHI) has developed a new heat pump with world’s first CO2 refrigerant Scrotary two stage compressors for commercial use in ambient temperature down to -25 degrees Celsius. The new ESA30 is capable of maintaining rated heating output at output at outdoor conditions of -7 degrees Celsius as well as being able to heat water up to 90 Degrees Celsius in an extremely cold outdoor condition of -25 degrees Celsius. Introduction of new Scroll-rotary technology, combining scroll and rotary technology is capable of delivering high efficiency at high and low pressure rations, respectively. Through introduction of a gas injection system in the medium-pressure housing, MHI has managed to increase the circulating volume of the refrigerant. The new ESA30 supports multiple installation connection and controlling up to 16 units, while being capable of supplying up to 120 tons of hot water at 60 degrees Celsius. Read more
Development of Generator-Integrated Hybrid Turbocharger Utilizing Exhaust Gas by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has announced the development of hybrid turbocharger to be used for marine propulsion diesel engines using engine exhaust gas. The hybrid turbocharger is also capable of generating electricity. The new MET83MAG hybrid turbocharger is capable of supplying all the necessary electricity needed during normal sea travel. The MET83MAG was commercialized in cooperation of Nippon Yusen KK (NYK Line), Universal Shipbuilding Corporation and Hitachi Zosen Corporation, and it will be installed and tested on a bulk carrier that is planned to go into service in 2011.
