Development of a New Frequency Synthesizer for Terrestrial Digital Television Broadcast Tuner by Fujitsu
In Japan the tuners that are incorporated into the TVs and mobile phones receive radio signals from broadcast towers, where the tuners will extract audio-visual data from those signals. The tuners employ frequency synthesizer capable of generating a clock signal that are equivalent to the frequency of the channel the viewer is selected to watch. The need of the frequency synthesizer within the tuners is due to thee fact that each channel which is transmitted by a broadcast tower occupies a different frequency. Terrestrial digital TV broadcast in Japan consists of 14 segments occupying 6 MHz of bandwidth. 12 of these segments are designated for TV, one for “1seg” broadcast for mobile phone, and the remaining one segment is left empty. SHARP to Commercialized First Solar-Powered Mobile Phone for the overseas markets
Sharp Corporation will commercialize its solar powered mobile phone which it introduced in Japan, for the Chinese market from this February. Since its introduction back in 2009 the solar powered hand set have proven popular which is a reflection on a recent increase in the number of eco conscious minded consumers. Read more
Development of Industry’s Highest Output Power 638 nm Laser Diode by MITSUBISHI Electric
Pico Projector is an emerging technology gaining in popularity that applies the use of a projector in hand held devices such as mobile phones. The development of Pico Projector was a direct response to emergence of compact mobile devices such as mobile phone and PDA as well as digital cameras which offer adequate amount of storage capacity required to handle such application as presentation but lack the space in accommodating an attached display screen. The current pico size projectors employing LED as the light source are capable of projecting a wider range of colors in comparison to lamp-based projectors; however, they lack sufficient brightness for everyday use in a normally lit room. On the other hand the laser diode based pico projectors offer higher output power with less power consumption results in longer battery operation. Read more
Development of Muli-band Power Amplifier for Mobile Phone by DOCOMO
NTT DOCOMO made an announcement on development of a multi-band power amplifier prototype capable of amplifying 8 different frequency bands ranging from 700 MHz to 2.5 GHz. Use of power amplifier in mobile phone is to increase signal power to a level that is required for given wireless communication protocol. Accommodating multi-band capability inevitability increases the mobile phone’s size for a simple fact of employing a separate single-band amplifier for each band. However, DOCOMO’s newly developed prototype is capable of 8-band operation through use of matching circuits where the frequency characteristics are controlled by multiple semiconductor switches to accommodate the required frequency band. KYOCERA Unveils the World’s Thinnest Sliding-Face Mobile phone with One-Seg capability
I don’t know why, but I always get a feeling as Japanese manufacturer is looking for the tiniest feature in a product to make it the world’s first, of course with much research done before jumping to that conclusion. Anyhow, this time the thinness and One-Seq compatibility is the feature that makes Kyocera’s new mobile phone the world’s first. The newly designed SA001 is a sliding face type mobile phone with capability of receiving one-Seg signal built for Japanese domestic mobile service provider “au”. Read more
DOCOMO unveils its green Mobile Phone Prototype with touch of Style
I guess use of scrap woods or so called surplus woods is becoming a technology trend coinciding with thinning tree activities in maintaining healthy forest. This is my second post on this subject. It all started with Mitsubishi’s announcement on development of new plastic resin from the surplus cedar wood. This follows with today’s DOCOMO announcement on development of mobile phone prototype made of surplus wood of trees culled. Well only the exterior body of the phone is made of wood. The new prototype was developed in corporation with Sharp and Olympus Corporation as well as with the collaboration of “more trees”, a reforestation project which is founded by musician Ryuichi Sakamoto and others. Development of Multimode, Multiband RF Transceiver for mobile phone by Fujitsu
Fujitsu Microelectronic made an announcement on launch of their entry product into mobile phone market. The newly developed product is a RF transceiver IC capable of supporting both the 2G (GSM/GPS/EDGE) as well as a maximum of 4 bands simultaneously within the 10 frequency bands of 3G (UMTS/HSPA) protocols. Furthermore, it comes with a 3G DigRF interface. The DigRF interface is an interface standard between the RF IC and baseband IC in wireless mobile devices. Read more
Development of New Coloring Technology by AIST
Increasing demand for consumer electronic devices, mobile phones as well as A/V devices as such forcing electronic manufacturers to revamp their manufacturing processes in order to accommodate the current mass production processing road-map. This is apparent in semiconductor manufacturing where the improved manufacturing processes have shorten the production time to days or even hours instead of months . But shorter manufacturing should also keep in mind the shorter and safer recycling life cycle given the ever increasing awareness for eliminating introduction of any hazardous materials during the recycling period. Development of three new grades of fluoropolymer for Electrical Wire Insulation application by DAIKIN
Daikin Industries today has announced the development of three new grades EP-546 and EP-526 of NEOFLONTM ETFE for electrical wiring insulation application which exhibit high temperature durability more than 2.5 times in comparison to the conventional products as well as EP-506 which allows greater mold processability. NEOFLONTM ETFE fluoropolymer features strong characteristic to bending and twisting making it ideal material for electrical wiring insulation in electrical systems of industrial robotic equipment that are constantly subject to extreme vibration and movement as well as electrical systems of automobiles and aircraft. “HypnosEye” a Portable Projector with no needs for Power Supply or Connection Cables
We have seen many small portable or even hand held palm size projector hitting Japanese market but none quite with “HypnosEye” characteristics. The “HypnosEye” does not require any power supply because it does not need any power to operate. The “HypnosEye” is easy to operate and carry, it comes with a form factor of 140W×105D×85Hmm and it weights only 350 gram. By just placing your iPhone or iPod touch inside of “HypnosEye”, the unit is able to project displayed images from the screen of iPhone or iPod touch without using power supply. Read more
