Development of 0603 Size High Performance Chip type Ferrite Beads by MURATA Manufacturing
Murata manufacturing made an announcement on commercialization of 0603 size chip type ferrite beads designed to reduce the undesired noise radiation in electronic equipment. The newly developed chip will result in power saving and extending battery operation time, while significantly reducing DC resistance by approximately 50% through Murata’s own new material as well as new process. Development of Industry’s Highest Capacity Embedded NAND Flash Memory Modules by TOSHIBA
Toshiba made an announcement on development and launch of a 64 gigabyte (GB) embedded NAND flash memory module, the highest capacity in the industry. The chip is in full compliance with e-MMC(TM) standard, targeted for various digital consumer products such as smart phones, mobile phones, netbooks and digital video cameras. The new chip combines sixteen 32Gbit (equal to 4GB) NAND chips and dedicated controller thanks to Toshiba’s 32nm process technology which includes application of chip thinning and layering technologies in achieving a thickness of only 30 micrometers for each individual chip. Release of Industry’s Thinnest LEDs by ROHM
Rohm now offers to the world industry’s thinnest LEDs. The PICOLED series by the company comes in a tiny 0.2mm thick package offering a high brightness. The newly developed PICOLED offers no brightness degradation in comparison to conventional products and at the same time achieves a reduction in mounting area and volume of 53% and 74% respectively over the standard 1608 size contributing to device miniaturization. Development of Digital Brightness Sensor IC for Mobile phones by ROHM
With an increasing demand for higher functionality on mobile phones power saving on these little gadget is becoming a mundane task. One way to the over all power usage of the mobile phone is through minimizing it LCD backlight power usage. In order to achieve such power saving objectives manufacturers of mobile phones implement some sort of brightness control usually via a microcontroller and LED driver along with an ambient light sensor requiring a relatively fast bus speed. As result of this, in response to faster internal transmission speeds in mobile phones to keep up with an increasing pace in addition of new functionality on these devices, ROHM made an announcement on development of industry’s first digital ambient light sensor IC compatible with I2C bus Hs (High-speed) mode. Sharp Corp of Japan has unveiled its prototype of optical system specially designed for mobile phones. Sharp is not alone in developing such system but there are few manufacturers who are working on the entire system from IC to the connector. This is really tiny as you can see from company’s own photo. This is a magnetic switch that has been commercialized to be used in mobile phones and laptops PCs as well as digital cameras for open/close detection.
Up to now, mechanical switches have been used for open/close detection of mobile phones and laptop PCs; but recently, magnetic switches and magnetic field sensors have been gaining popularity. This is due to the fact that unlike their mechanical counterparts, magnetic switches eliminate wear which is caused by contact between sensor and magnet. Read more
