Development of New Sensor Node Technology capable of Battery-less Data Transmission to Mobile Devices
Data transmission on commonly available wireless equipment such as Bluetooth or wireless LAN devices is taking care of by sensor node, data such as physical information on temperature, humidity, or stress or personal ID information and statistical type of information which needs to be read by a Bluetooth or wireless LAN transmitter, which are incorporated into the sensor node. This operation needs as much as several tens of mW at a peak power consumption for the sensor node, requiring sensor node to run on a battery which requires periodic maintenance for battery replacement, not to mention an increase in overall size of sensor node. The size and need for maintenance impose limitation on the locations, where the sensor node can be installed. To overcome these technical difficulties, Renesas Electronics has developed a new sensor node technology that enables battery-less operation while making it possible to build a system comprised of commonly used wireless communication devices.
