Canon has announced the development of ophthalmic instrument, a new non-contact tonometer with built-in pachymeter for fully automated measurement of intraocular pressure (IOP) as well as corneal thickness (CCT) for both eyes. Demand for high efficiency and accuracy equipment for machining of various gears including transmission gears, at low cost has been increasing in the automobile industry. Mitsubishi Heavy Industry (MHI) with its world’s first dry cutting gear production system using no cutting fluid back in 1997, has led the industry with diverse gear cutting machines and cutting tools. IN response to market demand, MHI has introduced a new gear grinding machines suitable for volume production of gears for up to 150 mm in diameter. The new ZE15B gear grinding machine is equipped with a newly developed workpiece changer resulting in shorter amount of time required for changeover, plus the twin tailstock model is capable of reducing non-operational time to just five seconds. The shorter high efficiency grinding has been achieved through an increase in machine rigidity and by adopting a 30 percent faster grinding wheel with the speed of maximum 6000rpm. Read more
With an aim to create a comfortable and safer transportation system, Fujitsu Laboratories has developed a wide-area traffic simulator offering its users virtual driving experience, where the user can evaluate the effectiveness of traffic policies and discover problem areas from the actual driver’s perspective, helping to design appropriate traffic policies which are more in tune with traffic conditions. Through this development Fujitsu’s new system is able to simulate in real-time the detail behavior of tens of thousands of vehicles located across a wide area of roadway. The newly developed system generates 60 frames per second of video displaying the road from driver’s viewpoint. The new system splits up the wide region into multiple areas and calculates each of these areas in parallel. The system also performs the real-time calculation of on migration of vehicles across area of boundaries, as well as interaction between vehicles. The system is capable of computing driver behavior, route planning, driving operations and physical movement of vehicles all in real-time. This calculation is done based on a layered vehicle behavior computational model and changes the volume and frequency of calculations for each layer. Read more

With the current move of semiconductor industry toward 32nm manufacturing process technology, Toshiba made an announcement of shipment of its newly developed 32 nm NAND flash memory approximately two month ahead of earlier announced schedule. The newly developed flash memory will be targeted for use in memory cards and USB memory devices and later on to be implemented in to other embedded devices according to Toshiba. The new chip is capable of storing up to 4GB of data. The sample of this new chip is available immediately with the commercial production to take effect sometimes in July. Toshiba mentioned that the newly 32nm NAND flash memory chip will be manufactured at company’s Yokkaichi plant in Mie prefecture in Japan.

In an effort to contribute to cleaner emission and better fuel efficiency Denso corporation has developed a new diesel temperature sensor capable of controlling temperature for diesel particular filter(DPF) resulting in reduction in harmful diesel emissions and improved fuel efficiency. The DPF is the process of recovering the DPF’s filtering capability by burning the particulate matter (PM) which is trapped in the device due to catalytic reaction.
Denso achieved the improved sensor’s temperature accuracy by increasing the length of the probe by almost two fold of conventional product and further extended the sensing tip into the exhaust pipe according to DENSO. Read more
