Development of Infrared Image Sensor Capable of Contact-less Temperature Measurement of an Object
OKI Semiconductor and Nissan Motor Corporation have jointly developed a medium-resolution (approximately 2,000 pixels) infrared image sensor capable of measuring temperature of objects in a non-contact fashion while providing an easy way to obtain thermal images. The newly developed ML6540WD infrared image sensor receives infrared rays from an object at 48 x 47 (2,256) pixels resolution, and then converting them into voltage via thermopile, and selects pixels is made with a clock signal output from client host CPU, allowing thermal images to be easily obtained by capturing an amplified signal with host ADC while performing additional signal processing. Its built-in op-amp circuit amplifies the infinitesimal voltage of the thermopile for conventional output signal level. Read more

Development of Industry’s First Audio Codec IC with a Built-in Automatic Wind Noise Reduction Filter during Microphone Recording
OKI Semiconductor has released industry’s first 16-bit monaural audio codec IC featuring a built-in automatic wind noise reduction filter, which has been designed in improving audio recording by reducing the wind noise during microphone recording. The newly developed ML26127 was developed based on market requirement for improved sound quality in portable devices with recording capability. The current codec ICs normally filter out certain low-frequency bands in order to reduce wind noise during microphone recording, however this will result in elimination of other low-frequency sounds as well, resulting in a reduced overall sound quality. Contrary to this, OKI’s new Audio Codec IC automatically detects wind noise and adaptively changes the filtering level for optimum recording and playback. In addition to this, the new Audio Codes IC comes with a fast release ALC function, multiple noise reduction circuits as well as proprietary LoudSound technology which provide the capability of outputting louder sounds from small speakers. Introduction of Industry Smallest Fingerprint Authentication system by OKI Semiconductor
Many of today’s fingerprint authentication solutions can not be easily implemented in IC Card applications, due to their large package sizes and high power consumption as well as need for multiple chip design, such as high-performance microcontroller (MCU) and external memory, making the implementation of biometric matching in an IC card format an impossible task for high volume production. In response to this technical challenge, Oki Semiconductor has developed a single chip fingerprint authentication solution for IC card application. Read more
Development of Dedicated Chipset for Intel Atom Processor
ROHM and OKI Semiconductor have jointly developed a dedicated chipset supporting the Intel Atom processor E6xx Series formally known as Tunnel Creek. The new chipset combines a power management IC, clock generator IC as well as input/output hub IC. Rohm power management IC (PMIC) supplies all of the voltage rails that is required not only for the Intel Atom processor E6xx series and the Intel Platform Controller Hub EG20T, but also for the DDR2 memory and BIOS-storage SPI Flash connected to the Intel Chip. Additionally, it controls start-up and power down sequencing, eliminating any needs for an external microcontroller on a CPLD which is normally required in most conventional x86 processor designs. The Rohm Clock generator IC (CGIC) provides all of the clocks needed by the Intel chip and the controller hub, plus by commonly employed external devices such as SATA, USB, etc. Read more
