Achievement of World’s Highest Areal Density on Linear Magnetic Tap

February 2, 2010 · Filed Under Trendy Products · Comments Off

An increase in worldwide data storage volume, forcing the manufacturers in producing larger capacity data storage media. But in order to increase the storage volume of magnetic tape storage media, it is necessary to micrify the particle size and increase the recording density. However, this procedure is extremely cumbersome using metal particle as one of the most popular material among the magnetic tape media market, all due to keeping the high coercivity for high density recording. Based on this challenge, Fujifilm has developed BaFe (Barium Ferrite) particles in achieving the world’s highest areal density of 29.5 billion bits per square inch on linear magnetic tape ,paving the way in manufacturing a 35 terabytes of data capacity per cartridge , 44 times the data capacity of today’s industry magnetic tape product.
