Sony releases World’s First DVB-C2 Compliant Demodulator LSI

Sony does it again, this time by releasing world’s first DVB-C2 (Digital Video Broadcasting-Cable 2) compliant demodulator standard. The new digital cable TV broadcasting standard is the next generation standard with an aim to significantly increase data transmission capacity while optimizing use of transmission channel by enabling multichannel and high quality HD broadcasting. DVB-C2 conforms with multilevel modulation making it 16 times denser than DVB-C , while providing tolerance against reflections and interference. Read more

Development of Novel Material for use in Involatile Phase-Change Random Access Memory

Group of Japanese researchers at Tohoku University has successfully developed materials for Ge-Cu-Te phase-change random access memories (PCRAM) featuring a high thermal stability and a low melting point. The new development was with an aim to resolve such problem as data loss under the environment at high temperature, helping to save data for period of ten years under the environment at more than 125 degrees Celsius. Development of New Plasma Display Panels by Panasonic

Panasonic made an announcement on development of ground breaking display technology with super efficiency operation of only 95 watts. The new quadruple luminance efficiency plasma panels are incorporated in Panasonic’s newly unveiled 152-inch full HD 3D plasma display and VIERA Cast-enabled HDTVs supporting Skype video calls on display at CES 2010 in Las Vegas. In developing the quadruple luminance efficiency panel had to develop a new phosphor materials, super high-speed drive technology plus adaptive signal processing technology in order to reduce power consumption and improvement in all the facets of panel illuminating process which includes discharge, illumination and light extraction resulting in development of display technology that consumes powers less than a typical room lamp’s 100-watt light bulb.
