Murata Manufacturing has announced the development of Wi-Fi driver software that can be used with uTRON as well as other type of Real-time OSes (RTOSes). The new driver software makes it possible to provide Wi-Fi capability to resource constrained energy efficient RTOS devices operating at low clock speeds, opening the door for Wi-Fi in OSes other than full-featured alternatives such as Linux and Android. Among some of the features on this newly developed software driver are; introduction of access mode in addition to client mode for operation which results in similar operation to that of the main wireless handset, while providing more robust security than ad hoc connectivity, support for WPA/WPA2 Personal encryption without additional software and support for WPS 2.0 Wi-Fi certified as well as Wi-Fi Direct which enables direct connection between Wi-Fi devices.
