Introduction of New LED lighting Devices for Planar Lighting Fixtures by SHARP
As conventional lighting products being replaced by ever popular LED, more and more people are seeking for LED lighting to be capable of depicting illuminated objects such as foods or flowers with colors close to those perceived under natural light. In order to meet such requirements Sharp has made an announcement on development of a series of new high color rendering LED lighting devices in two package styles. These surface mounted devices (SMD) chip LEDs are based on Sharp proprietary double molded structure which has been adopted for use in the LED backlights of AQUOS LCD TVs featuring an improved light extraction efficiency capable of delivering a luminous flux of 38 lumens, industry’s highest in the 0.5-Watt input power class. Development of New Technology in Preventing Movie recording Piracy
This new technology would probably put an end to movie piracy, well may be for a while at least. The newly developed technology specifically targets the individuals who record movies at the movie theater by their camcorders. National Institute of Informatics (NII) Associate Professor Echizen and Sharp Cooperation developed a technology for preventing pirates from recording films at movie theaters. This technology focuses on the differences of sensory perceptions between humans and devises through use of near-infrared signal as noise signals which is not harmful to human as well as being invisible to human eyes capable of adding noise to shooting video through CCD/CMOS device. Development of Solar Cell with World’s Highest Conversion Efficiency by SHARP
Achieving the highest possible solar energy conversion efficiency is at the heart of any solar cell research and development effort, and sharp is no stranger at this. Sharp started the development of its first solar cell back in 1967 by developing a solar cell for space application using single-crystal silicon. Much later on the company began its R&D on triple-junction compound solar cell to further improve efficiency, reduce weight, and increase durability of solar cells which was targeted for space applications. Through this effort in 2003 Sharp achieved 31.5% conversion efficiency. By today’s announcement using the same solar cell structure Sharp at least at the experimental level has achieved a 35.8% conversion efficiency rate. Read more
Toshiba unveils world’s first LCD TV with CELL Platform
Whether it’s Sharp’s UV2A photo alignment technology or Toshiba’s new Cell Platform, it is all clear that manufacturers of TVs are responding to consumer demands by putting more emphasis on picture quality of TVs rather than its thinness. Although the smaller and thinner TV platform can play a major role in future development of digital Multimedia technology through advancement of manufacturing processes such as role-to-role processing as well as introduction of other forms of screens and display technologies such as OLED and so on, but this may overshot the existing consumer by a mile if the only thing they are concerned about is superior picture quality and power efficiency. Toshiba’s announcement where company refer to it as the future of home entertainment which I think is a bit of over statement is unveiling their latest REGZA LCD TVs based on company’s pride and joy CELL Platform which is really a combination of high speed parallel processing of the Cell Broadband Engine and Toshiba’s advanced image-processing algorithms, together resulting in an arithmetic processing capability which is approximately 143 times than company’s current top of the line REGZA TV promising consumer with unrivaled image enhancement capabilities. DOCOMO unveils its green Mobile Phone Prototype with touch of Style
I guess use of scrap woods or so called surplus woods is becoming a technology trend coinciding with thinning tree activities in maintaining healthy forest. This is my second post on this subject. It all started with Mitsubishi’s announcement on development of new plastic resin from the surplus cedar wood. This follows with today’s DOCOMO announcement on development of mobile phone prototype made of surplus wood of trees culled. Well only the exterior body of the phone is made of wood. The new prototype was developed in corporation with Sharp and Olympus Corporation as well as with the collaboration of “more trees”, a reforestation project which is founded by musician Ryuichi Sakamoto and others. Development of world’s first Photo Alignment Technology for LCD panels by Sharp
Sharp Corporation today made an announcement today on development of world’s first Photo Alignment technology to be used for LCD panels. The new technology is capable of precisely controlling the alignment of liquid crystal molecules in a simple LCD panel structure. In achieving this Sharp has made use of special material that responds to ultraviolet rays and at the same time has developed UV2A Technology a photo-alignment technology capable for purpose of aligning film in LCD panels, providing a highly accurate control over the alignment of liquid crystal molecules corresponding to the direction of radiation.
