Sharp has announced the start of production of 5-inch full HD (1080 x 1920 pixel) LCD panels for smartphones featuring high pixel density of 443 ppi, among highest in the world. The new LDC panel has been developed based on CG-Silicon technology, a technology which has been developed jointly by Sharp and Semiconductor Energy Laboratory CO., Ltd. World’s Highest Solar Cell Conversion Efficiency of 43.5% using Concentrator Triple-Junction Compound Solar Cell

Sharp has announced the biggest breakthrough in solar cell conversion efficiency by development of concentrator triple-junction compound solar cell. The compound solar cells uses photo-absorption layers which are made of compounds consisting of two or more elements, such as indium and gallium, helping to boost the conversion efficiency to 43.5%. The triple-junction compound solar cell basic structure is based on Sharp proprietary technology providing efficient stacking of the three photo-absorption layers, with InGaAs (Indium gallium arsenide) as its bottom layer. The high conversion efficiency has been achieved through conversion of sunlight collected by three photo-absorption layers into electricity. Read more

Development of Two New Modules for Digital Signage Market

Sharp has announced the release of two new modules for digital signage market, allowing development and commercialization of PC free digital signage players. Both modules namely the LR0G951 and LR0G952 consist of a main circuit board, a remote controller receiver board and a remote controller. Sharp has announced the development of world’s thinnest CMOS camera module equipped with optical image stabilization for smartphones. The newly developed RJ63YC100 module is a 12.1-Megapixel; 1/3.2-inch CMOS camera module has been designed in response to market demand for super compact mobile devices such as smartphones. The new module will bring to mobile devices superior image quality with camera functionality which includes connectivity to AV equipment and PCs. The incorporated optical image stabilizer in this camera module uses a lens-shift system for controlling the lens inside the module. The module supports full HD (1080p) video capture with reduced blurring with an ability to view the captured video content on a large screen LCD TV. Sharp has achieved the new world record in solar cell conversion efficiency using a triple-junction compound solar cell, where the solar cell comes with a stacked three layer structure. The new compound solar cell with conversion efficiency of 36.9% use photo-absorption layers made from such elements as indium and gallium. The new increase in conversion efficiency has been achieved by improving power output of the solar cell through reduction of resistance of the junction areas which is necessary to connect the solar cell layers in series. Sharp and I-Cube Research Center Inc, has announced a joint development of a prototype of a Sharp and I-Cube Research Center featuring quad high-definition resolution (3,840 x 2,160 pixels), four times the resolution of current full HD 1080p TV signals. Sharp has announced the development of two new 1/3-type progressive-scan CCDs for security cameras with 520 kpixels and 610 kpixels, offering industry’s highest sensitivity of 1,900 mV and lowest smear ratio of -120 dB. The RJ3331AA0PB and RJ3341AA0PB CCDs are based on Sharp’s shrinking technology capable of increasing the image resolution of compact digital cameras, plus innovative design of micro-lens structure capable of maximizing light collection efficiency for the sensor element. The lowest smearing ratio on these newly developed CCDs will help to reduce smearing during shooting video under the strong light source such as headlights at night. Read more
