Development of High Speed mSATA Type Solid Sate Drive for Cloud Computing System
TDK has announced the development of high speed mSATA type Solid-Sate Drive (SSD) achieving 170 MB/s read and 70 MB/s write speeds. The new SMG3B series which support 3Gbps serial ATA measures only 30 mm x 50 mm and offers storage capacities of up to 64 GB. The new series uses TDK original SSD controller GBDriver RS3, which features powerful error correction expandable to 44-bit ECC. The new SMG3B series also comes with improved data reliability thanks to its power interruption data preservation algorithm as well as auto refresh functionality. In addition to this the SMG3B series comes with data randomizer which varies data patterns during writing in order to reduce the risk of bit errors. Read more
Development of Multi-Application Single Level Cell NAND Flash Memory with Embedded Error Correction
Toshiba has announced the development of BENAND ™, a versatile, multi purpose single level cell (SLC) NAND flash memory equipped with advance embedded error correction code (ECC). Its applications include LCD TVs, digital cameras as well as robots and other industrial applications. The product comes in two capacities of 4 gigabit and 8 gigabit. BENAND is designed to remove the burden of ECC from the host processor while minimizing protocol changes as well as allowing host processors to support process NAND flash memory in a timely manner. The product embeds an ECC with an error correction of 4 bit per 512 bytes. Samples of the products are ready for shipment with mass production to commence from March 2012.

Release of High-speed SATA Controller ICs by TDK
TDK has announced the release of GBDrive RS3 Series, high speed SATA (Serial ATA) 3Gbps compatible NAND flash memory controller ICs, featuring data randomizer and auto-refresh functions. The new controllers with high speed access of 170 Mbyte/second supports 8 kbyte/page SLC (single-level cell) and MLC (multi-level cell) NAND flash memories in addition to its existing 2 Kbyte/page, resulting in high-speed SATA storage ranging from 128 Mbyte to 128 Gbyte, making them ideal to be used in wide array of applications from SATADOM other embedded storage to mobile internet devices such as smartphones or audiovisual devices like smart television and Blu-ray disc players.
