Development of Facial Expression Technology by OMRON
OMRON has announced its new facial expression technology capable of estimating seven different facial expressions ,Happiness, Surprise, Fear, Disgust, Anger, Sadness, and neutral all in real-time. The technology can be applied to robotic technology where robot could react to a user’s facial expressions. The new technology can also be applied to image search engines or interactive games that respond to the facial expressions of the players. The new facial expression technology combines the OMRON’s proprietary 3D model-fitting technology and statistical classification method based on a massive database of facial images. Read more
Development of New Automatic Hand Gesture Recognition Technology by OMRON
OMRON has announced the development of a new hand gesture recognition technology. The new technology by OMRON incorporates company’s core facial image sensing technology allowing the gesture recognition to start automatically without any needs for trigger motion the recognition process through an initial movement, such as waving a hand. The new technology is capable of simultaneously recognizing the position, shape, and motion of a person’s hand or figure by referencing a camera recorded image. The hand gesture detection ranges from very near of about 10 cm to far (several meters). Omron’s gesture recognition technology employs a statistical classification method as well as model fitting technology developed over many years by OMRON. Part of this technology will be released at the Symposium on Sensing via Image Information (SSII 2012) to be held in Pacifico Yokohama from June 6 to 8.
