Development of Central Data Management Service for IC Card Issuance by TOPPAN Printing
As old credit cards are being replaced with IC based cards with estimated target of 80% within two years time in Japan, management of IC cards by financial institution in order to minimize damages and loss of these cards due to accidents or other reason is a costly task forcing the financial institution in Japan to divide IC card manufacturing operations between multiple manufacturing companies. In doing so many financial institutions entrust master keys to multiple IC card manufacturers that have data generation environment. At the same time in order to generate the necessary data for IC card manufacturer, a high security encoded. Carrying out the data generation at the financial institution comes with a significant initial investment. In addition to this cost, financial institutions incur additional cost and workload of managing and maintaining multiple master keys from different IC card manufacturer. Based on this need Toppan Printing launched the sale of TOPPAN ACIS-DG, a central data management service for IC card issuance, with aim to improve management efficiency and reducing costs of managing and maintaining the process through centralized system. Development of Flexible RF Tags by Toppan Printing
Following Fujitsu’s announcement on development of flexible RF tags with high resistance to temperature for garment management, Toppan Printing made its own announcement on launch of sales of new flexible RF Tags with excellent resistance to water and high temperatures. The new tags are Flexible UHF Tag (strip type) as well as Flexible HF Tag (coin type). For developing these tags Toppan has adopted special EPDM rubber which is used for windshield wipers for the exterior (sealing) material. The tags are destined to be used for such things as flexible container bags which are used for transporting goods in logistic market sector. The main application of the Flexible HF Tag (coin type) is expected to be for management of items such as uniforms and linen. Read more
Development of Japan’s first contact IC card featuring Biometric and Dynamic authentication functions by Toppan
Toppan Printing made an announcement on development of “SMARTICS-NEO” contact IC card featuring both the biometric as well as automatic authentication functions. The addition of palm vein authentication functions to the “SMARTICS-NEO” made possible by storing it in ROM instead of EEPROM. So far the main method of credit authentication has been through SDA (Static Data Authentication) method, exchanging fixed authentication data but in the automatic authentication method variable data is exchanged resulting in a higher security in payment transaction.
