Launch of a New Type of Evaporator for Liquefied Natural Gas by Showa Denko Aluminum
Showa Denko Aluminum, a consolidated subsidiary of SDK has successfully developed a new liquefied natural gas (LNG), via heat exchange with atmosphere, providing long hours of continuous operation. The system which comprises of aluminum-fin tubes is in class of large, out door heat exchanger, taking advantage of high thermal conductivity of aluminum. After the evaporation process, the natural gas is supplied to power generation as well as city gas. Use of LGN is gaining popularity due to its apparent characteristic of generating less carbon dioxide during the time of burning in comparison to other fossil energy sources such as oil and coal. The conventional LNG evaporator system faces such problems as short continuous operation time as well as fog generation which is as a result of the cooling of atmospheric vapor under humid conditions and ice-coating on fin-tubes resulting from the adhesion of frost, especially in areas with cold climates.
