Development of Dedicated Chipset for Intel Atom Processor

September 16, 2010 · Filed Under Trendy Products · Comments Off on Development of Dedicated Chipset for Intel Atom Processor

ROHM and OKI Semiconductor have jointly developed a dedicated chipset supporting the Intel Atom processor E6xx Series formally known as Tunnel Creek. The new chipset combines a power management IC, clock generator IC as well as input/output hub IC. Rohm power management IC (PMIC) supplies all of the voltage rails that is required not only for the Intel Atom processor E6xx series and the Intel Platform Controller Hub EG20T, but also for the DDR2 memory and BIOS-storage SPI Flash connected to the Intel Chip. Additionally, it controls start-up and power down sequencing, eliminating any needs for an external microcontroller on a CPLD which is normally required in most conventional x86 processor designs. The Rohm Clock generator IC (CGIC) provides all of the clocks needed by the Intel chip and the controller hub, plus by commonly employed external devices such as SATA, USB, etc. Read more

Development of highly secure USB memory device by Fujitsu

April 21, 2009 · Filed Under Trendy Products · 1 Comment

Leakage of personal as well as corporate confidential information is on the rise so much so for portable storage medium devices such as USB memory devices due to their easy of transporting them from company to home. But portable memory devices are susceptible to theft and can be easily lost or the stored data can be even leaked through file sharing network when viewed from personal PCs at home. Up to now companies have taken certain step to ensure the security of corporate data such as forbidding employees from taking work-related notebook PCs home, or by insisting on thin clients(2) that pass all traffic through controlled servers. But any practical solution needs to function in real-world business environments where there will still be a need to physically transport confidential data. To address this issue Fujitsu has developed a unique USB memory device prototype contains a processor and battery capable of erasing the stored data on it or self destructing the USB device in an event that the USB device has been plugged into an unauthorized PC.
