Development of Low Power, Low Noise All-Digital Phase Lock Loop LSI by NEC
As demand for short distance radio communication for such systems as remote controllers, alarm systems and automatic meter reading is on the rise, one major concern that has preoccupied manufacturers of these systems is their power consumption, requiring these systems to have a longer battery life. At the same time, small and lightweight criteria for wireless devices imposed by the market demand forcing manufacturer to further reduce the battery, however, reduced battery size will translate to reduced total available energy. For such battery driven devices one way to extend the battery life is through intermittent operation through use of all digital PLL (Phase Lock Loop) offering a quick operations as well as their advantage in eliminating large on-chip passive filters. In comparison analog-based PLL does not constitute a good solution due to their long start-up time. Based on this requirement, NEC and NED Electronics developed a low-power low-noise all-digital phase lock loop (ADPLL) LSI targeted to be employed in midget wireless equipment yielding a long operation lifetime for small sized batteries. Development of Wireless Power Transfer Technology by Sony
This announcement by Sony is by far the most fascinating news I have personally heard this month. We all heard of Wireless data communication system technology such as WiFi, but how about if you could eliminate all the power cables connected to various electronic devices that you have at home. Well, this is the beauty of the Sony’s new wireless power transfer technology. Earlier this month the company made an announcement on development of such system using magnetic resonance technology resulting in elimination of power cables connecting your electronic products such as television sets. World’s first Robotic Platform Vehicle
In recent years demand for new functionalities for new vehicles has entered a new stage among them are improved safety and predication of dangers. While steady robotization of vehicles is in progress, the key technology in meeting future Robotic vehicles is to be Electromotive and to be intelligent. In order to achieve this development of software as well as a platform for research and development is at most paramount. Having said this developing such platform using a real case study is costly and it would require a large space. Furthermore, companies and universities outside of paradigm of automobile industries are not allowed to freely participate in this area due to certain risks and dangers. Based on this gap and needs ZMP Inc. in Japan developed a world’s first robotic vehicle platform “RoboCarTM”. The “RoboCarTM” is equipped with the most advance image recognition module using stereo camera capable of unprecedented super-high-speed processing plus it incorporates various sensors enabling “RoboCarTM” to contribute in research and development of robotic vehicles and eventual autonomous driving experience with advance safety and environmental measures in mind.
